Goodbye to Ireland

July 2024 Newsletter

Seeing more and more classic cars out and about. Must be something to do with the weather as many owners tuck their cars away for the winter. Not WFTR though. We man up and head out whatever the conditions.

Not this month though. Other than club night the only planned event were these two:

Crossness Pumping Station – 23 Jun

Crossness pumping station

A run down the A25 to Crossness to visit one of Bazelgette’s wonderful buildings. Pumping out the effluent of London.

See the Crossness Gallery

And as you are reading this 8 interpid explorers were here:

Fun & Games on the Isle of Purbeck – 28 Jun – 1 Jul

A weekend away organised by Avis and Tim staying at the hotel where Enid Blyton wrote the Famous 5 books. So it’s time for an adventure!

Three great events coming up in July:

The Summer BBQ

Still time to register on what should be a fun packed day. Includes a horse show! If you haven’t already, get your name on the list so Lawrence and Suzanne know how many sausages to buy.

Thames Valley Tour – 21 July

An annual event and always great fun with an often interesting mix of cars whizzing round the Thames Valley. Includes a rally plaque which can be affixed to your motor vehicle as demonstrated above by Dave and his lovely assistant Linda. all organised with their normal efficiency by our very own Terry and Helen.

Run to Upham

Much delayed from the original date (due to flooding) this is a return to the incredible man cave of David Kendall. Still time to book your place.

Clubnight

Barry assembled a short video showing use all what they got up to on the Bluebell run. Very impressed with Mike and Lynda’s Spanish.

Once again, we ask for your support. We can only present things at club night if there are people presenting. Which means you. Please let up know if you want to tell us about your love of shoelaces or how to fettle a TR3 wingnut.

Committee Meetings

Each month the committee look forwards with great excitement to discussing all matters WFTR. So you don’t feel left out from now on we are letting you read the minutes of these momentous meetings:

Help Needed

We are still looking for a WFTR volunteer to write the periodic input about our Group for TR Action – please let the Committee know if you are willing to do this. Without an editor (it’s not onerous) you won’t ever see WFTR articles in TR Action.

We also need someone to take over running the website as Graham will be standing down at the AGM after 11 years of doing the job. It’s not complicated or difficult and full training will be provided.

Events only happen if they are organised by WFTR members. Which means you. If you want to enjoy taking your cars out with your friends we need organisers. This can be as simple as a local car show or a run out to the pub for lunch. Without your help the calendar for 2025 will become increasingly bare.

Long Weekend In Wales

Summer next year is a long time away, but several of us have booked for a return trip to Llanerchindda Farm in Wales from 13 – 16 June 2025. There are 6 places available and unless they are booked by us they will go to other non WFTR folk from the general public. The reason we have booked so far ahead is that this is necessary as they are so popular. This is not to be confused with the Wales trip this year being organised by Barry and Jenny.

TR Register Membership

We need to do all we can to recruit and retain members of the TR Register who are allocated to both our own and other Groups. We have lost 11 members and added only one in the last few months out of a current list of 108.
