October 2024 Newsletter
A Rolls-Royce never broke down. It just failed to proceed. So far this month I’m not so sure any of our cars have failed to proceed but one or two may have had to be coaxed into life or even lightly chastised in a manner similar to a certain Mr Basil Fawlty. Although he did drive an Austin 1100.
On a slightly different note, Triumph Lingerie had the tagline “Triumph has the bra for the way you are”. Which except for one word could work for our cars as it accurately describes them as old, patinated and slightly leaky.
But onto less leaky things. This month we did (or are doing):
The Cream Tea Run
A slightly curtailed event this year due to inclement weather but still a most agreeable afternoon at Chez Smith. We should all extend our thanks to Graham and Michelle for organising this event over many years the proceeds from each of which go in to the Group funds (as they do from the WFTR BBQ from Laurence and Suzanne).

Stock Car Racing
An exciting mix of racing at the Aldershot Raceway. Everyone who went in 2023 had a great time. Top tip: take a cushion!

October Club Night – 1 Oct
Should be a good one. Barry will be showing a video of the Wales trip including the WFTR Committee facing their innermost fears at the top of a mountain.
We are also selling four hand made hats with the rare and hard to find WFTR badge. We have arranged professionals to model the hats for you so you can see how good they are:
Autumn Leaves Run & Lunch – 19 Oct
A Saturday run of Approximately 50 miles finishing at The Dew Drop Inn.
Registration is now closed – no room left in the pub!
Wings Aviation Muesum – 26 Oct
A sort of follow on from the Tangmere run – the big difference here is they will be starting up their Merlin engine. Which is going to be something quite special.

Christmas Lunch – 14 Dec
We have made a hefty deposit as agreed by all at the AGM. Please register if you plan to attend (payment not required).
There are now 32 people registered so the event is safe. A few more won’t go amiss.
What we do need are ideas (and help) with the table gifts. Recent gifts have included: Mini Christmas Cakes, Knitted Chocolate Oranges, Goody bags. If you have a suggestion please let someone know. If you can help even better. We know it’s only October but these things take time to make.

AGM
The 2024 AGM will not be held at the Chritmas Party. The date for the AGM will be 7 Jan 2025.
