April 2024 Newsletter

We had out first club night under the new management and despite some heckling from the old chief all seems to be running quite smoothly. Barry gave a briefing on the ‘Other Activities’ part of the WFTR website. This is where we are promoting events and activities not organised by WFTR members but may be of interest to us. It seems to be working as a number have already signed up for the Guildford Motor Club Printemps Tour.

Inclement weather postponed the Upham Man Cave run. The whole labyrinth was close to flooding. A new date of 27th July has been arranged.

Chartwell

11 people are off to Chartwell on the 10th of April. If you want to join the happy throng there is still time to register.

Chartwell Registration

If you don’t fancy seeing Churchill’s House you are welcome to join us at the Stanhope Arms at 1pm for lunch.

Drive it Day

Drive it day is on at Brooklands this year. Tickets are booked though Brooklands. This is a FBHVC organised event so expect to see lots of cars and bikes from all sorts of clubs. The London group have negotiated a special TR drive it day entry discount for non Brooklands members. To get the discount code before you buy your tickets, register on our event web page and the code will be sent to you.

Royal Logistics Corps Museum

The last event in April on the 27th is a run to the Royal Logistics Corps Museum at Worthy Down. Should be another excellent day out to discover the history of a Corps that goes back to 1896. See how they changed from the Rag And Oil Company to the Really Large Corps.

Clubnight

Once again we meet at the Forester’s Arms for the monthly club night. The April meeting is on the 2nd and as you know we like to organise someone who can give us a short talk about a topic of interest. This month Tim B has agreed to tell us all about his latest project converting his TR4a from natural aspiration to electronic fuel injection EFI.

Christmas Party

At the AGM there was an overwhelming vote to return to the Meade Hall for the Christmas Party. The hall has now been booked for the 14 Dec. Put the date in your diary! We will not be requiring payment from you for this event until next October. However, we would like everyone intending to come to register early on our website (which is now open) so that we can have a better understanding of the numbers coming.

Mike Heelis

Good news, although Mike is now retired from being our Group Leader we have not lost him entirely. We are pleased to announce that Mike has been co opted onto the groups committee as Membership Secretary and will no doubt continue to contribute to the effective running of the WFTR group.

Volunteer needed

We are looking for a volunteer member to write the monthly content for the TR Action magazine social scene page. If we do not find someone who then our group will no longer be featuring in the pages of TR Action!

Runs

One day runs have proved very popular in the past especially when there is lunch (and beer) at the finish line. If anyone has a pet run that they would like to undertake this year please talk to Barry who can advise on what needs to be done.

Looking forwards

In May we have 3 events to look forwards to:

Fish & Chip Run – off to the seaside with Terry and Helen. A casual run through the South Downs for some lovely fish and chips by the sea. Plenty of outside seating with waterside views and a chance to dip your toes in the sea before the run home. Sunshine guaranteed 😉 !

Bluebell Run – A weekend away in Gloucestershire, Herefordshire and the Welsh Marches organised by the Ross & District Motor Club.

TRR Scottish Weekend at Doune & Outer Hebrides – Organised by Jeff and Lesley.

That’s all the news for this month. Hopefully a bit more to report once we have been out in the cars a bit more.
