A note from James
Having decided to stand for the post of Group Leader, I have been giving some thought to the succession plan and how to ensure we have a full programme of events for next year.
Fortunately, the WFTR website operates along very similar principles to the Basingstoke Canal website that Trisha is actively involved with. In her words she is not fazed by the thought of keeping this up to date (with offers of help from Barry and Graham) possibly as part of the proposed “Events Team”. Well volunteered!
As no one has come forward as Events Secretary, I propose that we form an Events Team of perhaps 3 or 4 people to spread the load.
I would also like to build on the idea of individual members proposing and planning events. Given the response to Barry’s initial request for possible 2026 events, I don’t think there is a shortage of ideas or people willing to organise one or two events per season but perhaps don’t want to be responsible for everything.
Could I request that event suggestions continue to be made through the website and that volunteers for the Events team make themselves known to me or the current committee.
As you probably know, I am still working – for a bit longer – and will be in The Middle East for the November meeting. I have asked Mike if he would be kind enough to read this note out to communicate that there is a plan for the era post Mike, Tim, Barry and Graham, even if it is still at an early stage.
Please feel free to contact me on 07768-750582 or j.duckworth@ntlworld.com if you have any queries, suggestions or thoughts ahead of the AGM.
WFTR Raffle
As you all know Avis and Tim have been doing our club night raffle for many years now. This has been a significant way of ensuring our funds are kept healthy. We are seeking a volunteer to take this on after the AGM in Dec. Please let a committee member know if you are willing to help with this role which is not a committee post.
2025 Finale

The Frog & Wicket Skittle Alley was the venue for the last event of 2025. David organised for 22 members and friends to meet up for a meal and an evening of skittles. The balls were almost round as were the bases of the pins but after 4 rounds the guys beat the ladies 2 games to one with one round declared a draw. A great way to round off the season.
Not The WFTR Christmas Party

We need more people to attend!
Without enough WFTR members we may not be able to hold the event. So please CLICK HERE to register your interest.
Dress will be as you wish and not black tie as has been rumoured with a preference for smart casual.
If we cannot get more members who wish to attend so as to balance the finances we will be left with two options: cancel and lose our deposit or make a bigger dent in club funds to subsidise those who do attend. The final decision point for this will be at the AGM on 02 Dec.
Phoenix New Years Day Meet & Lunch
The event is now live on our website so please add your name to the list if you would like to go. See https://wftr.co.uk/event/phoenix-car-meet-lunch-new-years-day-01012026/ for more detail.
