Club Night

The August WFTR club night will be at The Foresters Arms, 173 London Road, Bagshot, GU19 5DH, on 01 August from 7:30 p.m. Graham will be doing a presentation on our new online payment system and updates to the website. I am trying to get an interesting presentation organised to follow that. Do not forget to book in for food the day before if you are going to take supper beforehand.

I am sure you are all aware of how tight parking is to the rear of The Foresters on club night. This is unfortunate as previously we used to gather around the cars as part of the evening. The reason is that the pub has another group activity elsewhere on Tuesday evenings and those attendees also use the car park. We have three options: 1. Accept the situation as is, 2. Change club nights away from Tuesdays and 3. Move location of club nights. The committee would value your feedback so do please let us know what you think.

Event Report

At the last club night we presented a cheque for £500 to Phyliss Tuckwell Hospice Care which is a registered charity. We have received a very nice thank you letter from them. See pic below of the presentation:

Barry and Jenny organised a great day out for us at Adventure Golf near Chichester followed by a buffet lunch. The weather was really hot and soft tops down was the order of the day. Seems as though everyone else wanted to go to the coast that day and the roads were very, very busy in that area. It did not impact our fun where we were split into groups to traverse the African safari orientated course which was great fun. See pics below.

A few of our members participated in the Thames Valley tour organised by the Thames Valley Mini Club to which we are invited to participate in. This year provided a high quality event with an excellent road book, good food and enjoyable company. Another good day out and thanks to the Mini Club. See pics below:

I have to report that Tim and Graham recently attended a specialist driving course in the New Forest where they drove on the public highway and also did some invaluable road repairs on the day. Photographic proof of this is below:

Yesterday 25 of us participated in a relaxed run across the South Downs followed by lunch. We all met was the Esso station on the Hoggs Back where it was raining fairly hard and the outlook across the fields looked doubtful. However, after Mike had provided a briefing and confirmed the 90 mile route all set off in small groups. Compliments were received on what a good route it was to although there were a number of cars who decided to go another way. Coffee stop was at the Wield and Downland Outdoor Museum near Singleton and lunch was at the Princess Royal Hotel in Farnham. A good day out, see pic of the start below:

New GL Required

Only two people have responded in connection to my notice that I will stand down as GL in Dec at the AGM, but without volunteering. We will need a volunteer to come forward and take on this role so please consider putting your name forward.

TR Register

I have informed those who had put their names forward to participate in the British Car show with their TR’s on 17 and 18 Aug that we will be unable to have a stand at the show due to a lack of support from other Groups.

I have received two appeals for help from the Register as follows:

  • The Register are looking for a person to drive a van with equipment from Didcot to Shepton Mallet, out on the 10th August morning and back on the Monday 14th morning, ideally someone who is already going and not taking their car or has a passenger that can take their car and they drive the van, or the driver could drive there and back both dates. The Van will be a Mercedes Sprinter size van and we can offer free entry tickets for the weekend or a refund if already purchased.
  • The Register has booked to exhibit at the Silverstone Festival of Speed from 25 – 27 Aug and we need someone to drive the van and help out over the weekend any volunteer will get a free entry ticket for the weekend.
  • Regarding TR Action 346 unfortunately as you know there is a delay, this is mainly due to workload apologies from all: Message from Wayne. 346 will be the first of the 6-per year production schedule. We will distribute new dates and deadlines after 2nd August. Content submitted for 347 will still be used.  It will be despatched from next Wednesday onwards. Whereupon the new editor will, we hope, finally take the reins fully for the next issue.

It is that time of year where there is lots going on with our TR’s and there are even more non WFTR events which I know folk our attending not even mentioned in this newsletter. Have a great summer and happy TR’ing.
