Valleys & Villages Tour – 2023
Seven of us in 4 TR’s met up at Newlyns Farm Shop North Warnborough for a gentle drive out to Swindon ahead of the Valley and Villages historic rally tour the next day. For a few moments after arrival all was OK and then the heavens opened and it rained so hard the shop had to close the kitchen and the car park was several inches under water.
We had no choice, but to set out on a main road route to Swindon and our hotel for the night. The roads were atrocious with floods completely across carriageways and sometimes the whole road. Not much fun for our precious classics. We made up for it with a great curry close by that evening.
This is the fifth time WFTR have had several cars into this event which runs from Royal Wootton Bassett rugby club around a route of approx 90 miles with a mid morning stop for coffee/tea and cake then lunch and back to the rugby club. All navigated by a road book containing tulip diagrams of the route. Then there was a nice meal laid on to prepare us for the trip home. We had occasional light rain later in the day thereby facilitating roofs down for a good bit in the morning. It certainly rained with a vengeance on the journey home.
