Our July Club Night at the Foresters Arms Bagshot, will be on Tuesday 7th July from 7:30pm, although if you intend to eat beforehand we suggest you arrive around 6:30 to ensure you are ready for the start of the meeting. If you would like to take advantage of the ‘Steak and Wine for Two’ Special at just £33 then please phone 01276 472038 the day before to place your order.
Steve Campbell will be running the raffle for us this month.

Hopefully, England will still be in the World Cup by the time of Tuesday’s meeting. I don’t know much about football but having watched the last 32 game against DR Congo I think It’s safe to say that we have not yet peaked….
The next events are:
- Sunday 12th July – Afternoon run to the coast for Fish and Chips. We have 14 people registered to date.
- Sunday 19th July – Thames Valley Tour. We have 29 people taking part plus others helping Terry with marshalling.

The Gosport Submarine visit on 4th June was a resounding success despite multiple Utility companies digging up and closing multiple roads on Steve’s carefully planned route to the museum. We all found our way to Gosport eventually and enjoyed a guided tour of HMS Alliance, a post war Amphion class hunter-killer submarine. The boat was cramped with 20 of us so living on board for up to 6 weeks at a stretch with 60 others is difficult to imagine.
We then had an excellent lunch on the slightly swaying Lightship restaurant. We hoped to see the ex-Luftwaffe sail boat that Nick helps look after, but it wasn’t on its berth. This slightly concerned Nick who feared the worst before making a phone call to find out it was on its way to France.
We are still seeking volunteers to:
- Organise an event of their choosing on a day of their choosing
- Prepare a brief talk / presentation / discussion for the monthly meeting. This can be on any subject that you think will be of interest to WFTR members.
I would also like to welcome David Fairhead to the WFTR collective. Welcome David, we hope to see you at one of our meetings or events.
I won’t be at the meeting on Tuesday as I will be away on business. I hope work won’t get in the way of TR’ing for much longer!
Recent Happenings
Visit to the Submarine Museum and lunch aboard a Lightship – Steve Campbell writes:
With the apparent break in the rain 21 of us met in Chawton for the start of a very pleasant run down to Gosport.
Five WFTR club members were brave enough to come in their TRs, plus Andy in his Mini Cooper S, and the remainder in the more sensible ‘plastic’ cars.
After the disappointment of a broken coffee machine at the meeting point we all set off on a lovely run through the local countryside and Meon Valley. It was all going rather smoothly and to time until we suffered with two road closures. These caused some diversions which, for some of us meant that we had to stay on the main road from then onwards in order to arrive at the museum on time.
Having all arrived safely in Gosport a fascinating 30 mins were spent on board HMS Alliance with a very knowledgable ex mariner giving us a guided tour of the vessel. I’m sure we all thoroughly enjoyed his incite into life aboard a WW2 submarine.
After a brief look around the Submarine Museum and with the weather still holding up we all arrived at The Lightship dry and exactly on-time, where we were booked for lunch. All agreed that the food was delicious and the staff lovely.
Unfortunately, over lunch the heavens opened so it was a bit of a lottery who could pick the time to get back to their cars in-between the rain showers.
None-the-less all of us (some wetter than others) headed back home after a thoroughly enjoyable day out.

12th July – Fish and Chip run to Littlehampton – An afternoon run of approximately 50 miles, starting from the Hogs Back Services.A detailed route will be given out at the start. Our favourite fish and chip shop has inside seating however, if the weather permits, it is lovely to sit outside along the river Hamble and take in the views.
19th July – Thames Valley Tour – A 100 mile tour around the Thames Valley. Starting with breakfast at Blackbush Airport Cafe, there will be an organised coffee stop and the cost includes lunch at a 200 year old pub. Those who have already registered their interest will have received an email from Helen with entry and payment details.
2nd August – Phyllis Tuckwell Motor Show – Held by Robert & Tanya Lewis in Churt, this annual event is held in aid of The Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice. Entry is £25 per car inc. all passengers to the show and the Private Collection of over 60 cars and thousand of items of memorabillia.
8th August – Collectively Camberley Car Show – Free to enter, this event showcases over 250 vehicles across Camberley Town Centre which is closed to normal traffic for the day.
8th August – RHS Gardens Wisley with the TR Register – An opportunity to display your pride and joy at the historic home of the Royal Horticultural Society. The ticket price also included entry to the extensive gardens.
29th August – Summer BBQ & Formation Riding Demo – A run of 1.5 – 2 hours will finish at the home of Laurence & Suzanne in time for coffee. The riding demonstration will be followed by the BBQ which will start at approx 1pm.
The long weekend trip to Llanerchindda Farm in Wales in June 2027 has just 5 places still available, so you are advised to resister soon if you would like to go. See website for full details.

Later the secret service agent’s supervisor takes him aside and asks, ‘what the hell made you shout Mickey Mouse’?
Blushing, the agent replies, ‘I got flustered and meant to shout Donald Duck!’.
