Goodbye to Ireland

Hills and Valley Scenic Tour

On 18 May Tim and Avis (TR4A), Graham, Michelle, Mike and Lynda (TR6’s) set off for a very pleasant non motorway drive up to Oswestry to meet with Terry and Helen (TR4A).  We all stayed overnight in the Premier Inn and made off to the start of the Scenic Tour at the British Iron Works where we had breakfast as part of the event.

There were 66 cars entered of all types ranging from modern classics, rally cars to a 1947 MG TC so fun for all.  We were issued with a comprehensive Road Book which contained detailed Tulip navigation and many helpful notes for interesting sites and features on the tour.  This was conducted in four legs with morning coffee at the fascinating Llangollen Motor Museum (included free entry, lunch at the lake at Lyn Tegid, afternoon tea at a Victorian workhouse and then back to the Iron Works.  Cars ran at one minute intervals and there were secret passage controls on the route.  The scenery, features and roads used were simply superb and too many to list here, bar one we must which is the Vale of Llangollen which we circulated around on a single track road high up on the hillside – stunning views.  These sights were complimented by the superb sunny weather we had throughout.  All participants were presented with a gift and supper at the conclusion of the event. In summary simply an unforgettable experience and one which is similar in nature to other events in our calendar this year where we have Thames Valley Tour, Valley and Villages and Ludlow and the Marches.

We all then went on to visit Iron Bridge on the Monday which was excellent, but this is another story.
