Goodbye to Ireland

Caerphilly Does It!

Thirteen intrepid explorers left Chievely Services in bright sunshine, which luckily stayed with us for most of the weekend. After a lunch stop in Over we headed off to our hotel in Caerphilly, a much better journey than when we went to Monmouth earlier in the year.

Saturday morning saw us boarding the Brecon Mountain Railway steam train which chuffed its way into the picturesque National Park returning us back in time for lunch, after which we went in several different directions to visit various attractions in the area; meeting up for our evening meal in an Italian restaurant with views of the castle.

Sunday began with a visit to Big Pit with several people opting to do the underground tour which is led by ex miners who are a ‘mine’ (groan) of information and have many a tale to tell. Sunday afternoon was another opportunity to explore the area before our evening meal at The Travellers Rest.

Monday morning was Zip Wire time and what was to be a quick visit turned into a much longer stay as we couldn’t get them off once they had started – we finally left at 2pm for an uneventful run home.

Great memories of a fun weekend.

And nobody broke down!
