Our August Club Night at the Foresters Arms Bagshot, will be on Tuesday 4th August from 7:30pm, although if you intend to eat beforehand we suggest you arrive around 6:30 to ensure you are ready for the start of the meeting. Although England failed to win the World Cup, members will have the opportunity to win the WFTR equivalent at QUIZ NIGHT taking place at the next Club Night. I think the last quiz took place about 3 years ago so we are almost on the World Cup schedule.
Organised by world famous quizmasters Lance and Angela (also known as friends of Laurence and Suzanne), the quiz will be over 10 rounds and include lots of questions……..a short acceptance speech will be expected from the winner.
For the August and September club nights we have Andy McClaren talking about vehicles (including tractors) he has owned, and Terry Schraider on the Tulip rally that he did with Dave Hankin in May/June.
Car Club Fest is rapidly approaching (14th – 16th August). As Jeff Roberts has explained, this is the premier event of the year for the TR Register Car Club. A dedicated website has been created which contains clips of the action from previous shows, details of this year’s programme and provides links for those wishing to participate in some of the activities at the show such as the AutoTest or to purchase tickets. It can be found at www.carclubfest.com.
I understand that an Indian restaurant has been booked for the Saturday night with Dave Hankin’s sales stand – second hand Triumph parts and cars a speciality – acting as the WFTR base camp for the weekend.
29 of us took part in The Thames Valley Tour on 19th July. Organised by the Terry Schraider team, this event of some 120 miles offered excellent roads, weather, directions and venues for the 35 or so classics that took part. A more detailed write up is later in the newsletter.
We have a couple of 2027 events under preparation that are worthy of mention. A weekend visit to the Dudley Canal Tunnels, Black Country Living Museum and world famous Mad O’Rourke’s pie factory, and a return visit (I think) to Fawley Museum. This is a private museum established in the 1960s by the late Sir William McAlpine at his estate near Henley on Thames. It hosts a fine collection of memorabilia and models relating to railways and other forms of transport together with a working standard gauge railway operating on the steepest gradient in the country.
Some of you may be aware that the WFTR website appears to have been targeted by spammers / bots who are signing up for events and leaving meaningless comments. If you see a combination of random letter saying they are attending an event, please ignore it as we will remove them when we get a chance. I am advised that we may have to introduce some form of verification to try and block these notifications.
Finally, instead of a joke, which I accept have been getting steadily worse, I offer my own question in advance of the WFTR quiz.
From what railway station can you get direct trains to different London terminals that leave the station in opposite directions to one another (hint: it’s West of London)

The Thames Valley Tour – 19th July 2026
Terry Schraider writes – Starting from Blackbushe Airport, the ninth Thames Valley Tour consisted of a 100-mile route that provided entrants with an opportunity to enjoy some beautiful West Berkshire scenery.
With its increasing popularity, this year’s tour attracted a full entry of 36 cars, and it was great to see that included no less than 14 TRs all except one being entered by Windsor Forest members. One other group member, Andy McLaren entered in his Mini Cooper thus making 14 entries from the group. Surely that must be some sort of record.
After a substantial bacon or sausage roll in the Pathfinder Café, entrants set out following the tulip roadbook in a generally north-westerly direction through the mostly wooded lanes in the Thames Valley. Although the 32-mile route was not difficult some crews had navigational issues which resulted in Cliff and Coral Turnbull’s TR3A arriving slightly late at the coffee stop at Browns Classics in Leckhampstead, where Dave and Jan Hankin were on hand to help people to find the site facilities and to inform them of their required leaving time.
Leaving the coffee stop crews found the wooded lanes in the valley had given way to the rolling hills of the Berkshire Downs and the twisting 30-mile route enabled people to see some spectacular views as well as some quiet, out of the way, villages. Whilst driving the course to check the route was clear Terry and Helen Schraider were surprised to see Steve and Noel Campbell coming the other way in their TR6 having completely missed the coffee stop. Maybe they just wanted to get to the lunch at the Red Lion in Blewbury before the crowds.
The 78-minute stop at the pub gave crews time to discuss their exploits so far whilst enjoying the lunch provided, before setting off on the final and longest section of the route. Again, the rolling downs provided lovely views as the route dropped into the valley to cross the Thames at Goring. Then, once back into the wooded countryside crews were surprised to come across a junction so tight that it was necessary to practice their Driving Test three-point turn to get round.
When almost at the finish at the New Inn in Heckfield crews encountered a final sting in the tail, where accurate distance checking suggested you miss an obvious turning, only to find another a short distance further on. Although both turnings brought crews to the same place a cunningly positioned marshal was able to indicate those who had taken the correct route as opposed to the wrong route. This created some discussion at the finish where newcomers wanted to learn what they needed to avoid similar mistakes in the future.
Overall, the event was a great success. All crews successfully reached the finish and over a very welcome drink discussed their adventures during the day with most vowing to come back for next year’s Thames Valley Tour.

2nd August – Phyllis Tuckwell Motor Show – Held by Robert & Tanya Lewis in Churt, this annual event is held in aid of The Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice. Entry is £25 per car inc. all passengers to the show and the Private Collection of over 60 cars and thousand of items of memorabillia.
8th August – Collectively Camberley Car Show – Free to enter, this event showcases over 250 vehicles across Camberley Town Centre which is closed to normal traffic for the day.
8th August – RHS Gardens Wisley with the TR Register – An opportunity to display your pride and joy at the historic home of the Royal Horticultural Society. The ticket price also includes entry to the extensive gardens.
29th August – Summer BBQ & Formation Riding Demo – A run of 1.5 – 2 hours will finish at the home of Laurence & Suzanne in time for coffee. The riding demonstration will be followed by the BBQ which will start at approx 1pm.
5th September – Fish & Chip Run to Littlehampton – An afternoon run of approximately 50 miles, starting from the Hogs Back Services.A detailed route will be given out at the start. Our favourite fish and chip shop has inside seating however, if the weather permits, it is lovely to sit outside along the river Hamble and take in the views. This is the run that was planned for 12th July but postponed due to the weather. If you were coming on that date and still want to take part, could you please re-register in the usual way.
15-25th September – Trip to Circuits des Remparts d’Angouleme – A chance to see some of the beautiful French countryside. – Unfortunately, registration for this event is now closed.

Hi Jenny, Lesley, Tim and I attended the new Classic Car Sunday at the County Market, Borden. It was a good event, with a good selection of Classic cars.
Talking to a chap there he says the Departure Lounge event still continues on the last Sunday of the month. Apparently, there were two Classic car groups involved at the Departure Lounge and they split resulting in two events.
I don’t know if this is true or not but worth checking out.
