August 2013 Newsletter
Well, what a fantastic summer it’s been. Great weather, loads of TR and other classic car events to take part in and still more to come,as we move into our Autumn Season.
We have now changed our regular monthly meeting venue effective from our next meeting starting at 8pm on 4th September 2013 to the Pine Ridge Golf Club, Camberley, GU16 9NX. So far our new hosts have been very welcoming and receptive to our needs. We will have a dedicated area in their main bar, a TR parking area in a quiet section of their main car park, use of their terrace and a meeting room when needed (subject to availability).
Pine Ridge offer a fine selection of beers and other drinks and have an extensive and reasonably priced bar menu – so if you’re thinking of eating there, that’s just fine.
Over the past three months there have been some notable events and activities sponsored and supported by Windsor Forest TRs. These include:
- Visit to the Hook Norton Steam Powered Brewery where we were joined by members from London and Vale of the White Horse Groups (I’m still jealously guarding my last stock of the Old Hooky)
- Barbecue with Thames Valley Group
- Clandon Classic Car show in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support
- Unsted Park School Classic Car Show in aid of autistic children
- The Richard Murray Memorial Drive in which 20 classic cars participated and where we were joined by Chris Cunnington, Chairman of the TR Register and Mike Ellis, TR Register Sidescreen Registrar and their delightful wives
- RAF Benson Family Day
- White Dove in aid of the Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice
- The Windsor Forest Mystery Drive.
If this wasn’t enough, in between all these ‘official’ WFTR events many members have individually supported other events including Goodwood Breakfasts, The Festival of Speed, the Spa Classic, Honfleur Revisited with SDG , Loseley Park Classic Car Show, ‘La Vie en Bleu’ organised by the Bugatti Owners Club at Prescott Hill Climb, the bi weekly Classic Car Meet at the White Lion, Hartley Wintney, the British Grand Prix and the Silverstone Classic Car Show and many more.
Send us your photos and stories and we will publish them on the site.
Many of these activities have been written up in TRaction ‘Social Scene’ 268 which was published on 12th August. You can also find a write up of our more recent events in TRaction 269, due out on 23rd September – so keep an eye out for the next issue.
WINDSOR FOREST TR WEBSITE
We are very keen for our website to become the main communications hub for our club.
While it is still work in progress and there are still many refinements and corrections to be made, our aim is to develop this site as our main communication link with members. This means as a member you can post information and photos of your TR exploits on our website, whilst at the same time providing your Committee with a vehicle to disseminate information, news and notices which may be of use and interest to you.
Please note that the TR Register also maintains a WFTR site under its Local UK Groups. This site contains a link back to this site
Our Membership Secretary, Nick Nigel, has been very busy over the summer months updating the Windsor Forest Membership Database to ensure we have as many valid email addresses as possible so the club can effectively commincate to its members. Of our 122 members we now have just over 100 email addresses. We need a few more so if you know of other members who are not on the emailing list please ask them to contact nick at email@example.com
Over the past few months we have purchased a new Gazebo for use at WFTR events and placed an order with the Register for a Windsor Forest sail – something which is now almost mandatory for groups. and I’m sure will improve our ‘presence’ at events.
The picture on the right shows the skills of the WFTR construction team.
Our Annual General Meeting is scheduled to take place at our 4th December Club Night. Details will be sent out nearer the time but it is anticipated we will review activity and achievements over the past year, provide feedback from the TR Register AGM held in November and seek members input and ideas for next year’s calendar of events. This is important to us. This is your club and we’d like to ensure our activities truly play to the interests of our members. So make a note in your diary – and come along.
This year your Committee has decided to hold our Christmas function on an evening in the weeks immediately before Christmas rather than, as last year, in the New Year! Having learned from last year, we would like to hold this very special event at a time when the appetite for Christmas is building (rather than receding) and during a time of year when the weather can potentially be milder.
For these reasons we have decided to hold the Windsor Forest TRs Christmas Dinner on the evening of Wednesday, 11th December, commencing at 7.30 p.m.
We have been kindly offered a private room for this event at Pine Ridge, who are serving an extensive Christmas Menu. Early booking is essential, with prior payment by 11th November at the latest.
Please confirm your attendance and menu selection to Linda, our Social Secretary on firstname.lastname@example.org. Please also send cheques made payable to TR Register Windsor Forest TRs to our Treasurer, Dave Eaton 108 Brookfield Road, Aldershot, Hampshire, GU12 4UT
That’s all for now folks.
