April Newsletter

Our April Club Night at the Foresters Bagshot, will be on Tuesday 7th April from 7:30pm, although if you intend to eat beforehand we suggest you arrive around 6:30 to ensure you are ready for the start of the meeting.

Terry will be organising the monthly Raffle for us this time.

GL Report

James Writes I went to the Practical Classics Classic Car and Restoration Show at the NEC on 20th March. I thought this a better show than the November Classic Motor Show because it is (a) smaller and (b) most display cars are not in concourse condition and therefore much more familiar to the bulk of us who are enthusiasts rather than perfectionists. My favourite section was the ‘barn find’ display of 20 or so cars including a Stag, Dolomite and an Allegro. All needed extensive restoration (or scrapping)!

The fixtures list continues to grow with the October Skittles Night now added. There are several other excursions that are in the planning stage so keep an eye on the website for further information.

Please feel free to volunteer to give a brief talk/presentation at club nights on any subject that you think might interest those attending. The subject need not be car specific.

The March 21st – 27th edition of The Economist magazine included an article suggesting that the cost of motoring has rarely been so cheap. How much of this is relevant to our TRs is debateable but it puts the recent petrol price rises into some context. The article is below.

Drive it Day is Approaching

Could I encourage WFTR members to consider signing up for this as we have only 6 cars registered to date. It is just £11 per car (a link to get your tickets is on our website) and should be an interesting days entertainment. CLICK HERE to visit the Hollycombe website where you can see everything the venue has to offer.

Whilst it is not for everyone, the WFTR Whatsapp group has become the preferred means of getting in touch with or exchanging information between the majority of the more active members in our region. The chat is restricted to club/car related matter only so if you are not already included but are considering joining then be assured that you will not be bombarded with someones holiday photos or irrelevant chatter, but can be a useful source of getting help and information from fellow members. If you would like to join then see Barry at Club Night or send your phone details to barry@emailgreen.co.ok

Full details of all events will continue to be posted on the website, CLICK HERE to view.

Because a few people left the club towards the end of last year we have recently started a WhatsApp group for ladies both past and present to enable us to keep in touch. The plan is to meet up occasionally for a short walk or tea/coffee at a garden centre etc. and because we cover a fairly wide area we will not always be meeting at the same place, anyone can suggest a venue so hopefully we will get a nice variety of places to visit. If you would like to be included see Jenny at Club night or send your phone detais to jenny@emailgreen.co.uk alternatively, any of the existing members can add you.
