Laurence was quite insistent that he didn’t want to win first prize last month – but guess what!! Instant karma

GL Report

Firstly, thanks to Terry for his presentation at the last meeting on the Tulip rally which I understand was thoroughly entertaining.

Secondly, thanks to Laurence and Suzanne for yet another epic BBQ/horse show event last Sunday. A huge amount of work goes into the planning of this event to make it run smoothly. It was great to see so many TRs amongst the horses and thankfully the rain held of until later in the day.

Andy Mclaren’s presentation telling us about vehicles he has owned / still owns / likes / dislikes will now take place at the November meeting.

Over the last few years, many WFTR members have taken part in Scenic Tours run under the auspices of The Historic Rally Car Register (HRCR) https://www.hrcr.co.uk/hrcr-championships/scenic-tours-series/ There are 20+ events each year around the country with a format very similar to The Thames Valley Tour organised by Terry (single day tours of around 120 miles split into 3 or 4 segments with intermediate refreshment (toilet) breaks). These events must be booked individually so do not lend themselves to being arranged as formal WFTR events however I propose that we show the planned 2027 tours as a generic event on the website so that members can easily find the dates and locations. No specific organisation is required so someone can say, ‘I am planning to do this event, is anyone else interested?’.

There is an HRCR event starting in Ludlow on 11th October which a couple of us are doing. At the time of writing, there are still places available.

Although it isn’t until 16th January 2027, the New Year lunch currently has only 26 people registered with a further 22 places available. I guess that many people have kicked this can down the road as it is next year, but we have paid a non-refundable deposit and need to have a better idea of the numbers who are likely to attend so that we can confirm arrangements. Could I encourage people to sign up as soon as possible?

I would like to welcome new members Kevin Hughes, David Fairhead, Colin Best, Steve James, Jonathan Phillips and Justin Lalonde who have recently joined the TR Register falling within our area. Welcome to all.

Now for my usual requests

  • Meeting presentation / talks I think / hope that everybody enjoys these occasional talks generally given by members. The talks can be about any subject of general interest. It doesn’t need to be about TRs. Please let me know if you would like or could be persuaded to give one of these short talks.Without further volunteers, I will be forced to ask Mike to present his multi-part epic on ‘TR6 fuel pumps I have known’…..I am not sure we are ready for this.
  • Event planning for next year. We are starting to plan the schedule for 2027, with several new events to run alongside the regulars. To those who haven’t organised a WFTR Event before, I would encourage you to dip your toe in the water as help is available and the organisation is actually quite good fun. You also get to do what you want to do, knowing that there will be others happy to accompany you.

The Autumn Leaves Run and Lunch on 17th October has 28 people registered with registration now closed.

The skittles event on 23rd October has 25 registered.

This is a great turnout for both these events.

I look forward to seeing you at The Foresters in a few days.

Recent Happenings

Fish & Chips in Littlehampton

The run got off to a good start in warm sunshine on a route that was originally set by Terry back in 2019.

Some cars stopped for ice cream at the viewing point overlooking the beautiful South Downs, while others intended to do so but overshot the entrance to the car park (including us). However, via a variety of routes, some more creative than others, we all arrived at Littlehampton unscathed and gathered in and round the chippy which was up to its usual standard, yummy! Several chose to sit inside for fear of scavanging seagulls, while others ate in the sunshine overlooking the river – thankfully the seagulls had probably been eating for most of the day, so didn’t bother us. The ‘insiders’ joined us in the sun to sit and chat, and those who missed out on the ice creams earlier got their fix from the kiosk near the chippy, before a leisurely drive home.
